White House lockdown lifted after small plane violated airspace over Washington, DC

The U.S. Capitol and its office buildings were briefly evacuated Tuesday over a report of a possible aircraft in restricted airspace.

Maj. Andrew Hennessy said NORAD identified an object flying near the White House that appeared to be an aircraft but that assessment was changed after a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter was sent to investigate.

Fighter jets are believed to have been scrambled amid reports of an airspace violation in Washington DC.

Mali's army has since recaptured the territory but insecurity continues and the violence has spread to neighbouring countries. As night fell, an intense gun-fight erupted and aerial reinforcements were called in to pursue the militant fighters.

Another reporter wrote: "Much of the Capitol complex and surrounding streets are closed this morning due to an "air con" emergency".

According to the president's schedule, Trump was supposed to have the In-House Pool Call Time at 9:00 a.m.

During the evacuation, construction workers, who had been working on the fence replacement on the north side of the White House were reportedly told "everybody get out".
