Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman concluded his opening statement in the third day of public hearings in the impeachment inquiry with an emotional message to his father celebrating the rights and freedoms enjoyed by U.S. citizens. Vindman was the first current White House official to give a deposition, and was one of the first witnesses to provide direct, firsthand confirmation of numerous details in an anonymous whistleblower's complaint that first fueled the inquiry.

Tuesday's hearings will be conducted in two parts, with the first hearing featuring Vindman and vice presidential aide Jennifer Williams.

Holmes testified on Friday that he was with Sondland in Kiev the day after Trump's call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, in which Sondland called Trump and held the phone out at a restaurant where Holmes could hear the conversation.

The hearing on Tuesday began with Lt. Col. Alexander Vindman, an Army foreign area officer who serves on the National Security Council, and Jennifer Williams, a foreign service officer detailed to the staff of Vice President Pence.

At a follow-up meeting that both also attended, Vindman said: "Sondland emphasized the importance that Ukraine deliver the investigations into the 2016 election, the Bidens and Burisma".

The impeachment hearing "is a great fraud being played out against the American people by the Fake News Media & their partner, the Do Nothing Democrats", Trump tweeted Monday, claiming the hearing rules "are rigged" by Pelosi and Congressman Adam Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence panel.

Volker and former National Security Council Russia expert Tim Morrison are scheduled to appear on Tuesday afternoon. "Despite some of the speculation, the President has not had any chest pain, nor was he evaluated or treated for any urgent or acute issues", Conley said.

Trump says North Korea went too far in calling Biden 'rabid dog'
North's State Affairs Commission, the country's supreme decision-making body, had lashed out at the planned U.S. On Monday, North Korean Foreign Minister Kim Kye Gwan poured cold water on the Trump administration's outreach.

He also said Trump never christened him, Ambassador Gordon Sondland and Energy Secretary the "three amigos" in charge of Ukraine policy.

Trump then took a brief tour of the hospital, Conley said.

He listened in on the July 25 call at the centre of the impeachment inquiry.

Democrat Peter Welch responded at the time, "I would be glad to have the person who started it all come in and testify". He told lawmakers that "character attacks" against public servants testifying in the impeachment inquiry were "reprehensible".

The two senior officials were directly involved in the July 25 phone call between Trump and Zelenskiy.

Morrison pointed the finger at Sondland for having "chiefly led" the irregular diplomatic process, which incorporated Giuliani.

Morrison has confirmed to investigators that he witnessed a key September conversation in Warsaw between Gordon Sondland, the USA ambassador to the European Union, and a Ukrainian official.
