Dershowitz spoke Monday on Fox News' "Fox & Friends". At a bookstore forum in Washington, D.C., last week, Omar sparked fury when she said that pro-Israel advocates are pushing for "allegiance to a foreign country". What we do not know is whether House Democrats are capable of summoning the courage to punish Ilhan Omar in the same manner that House Republicans recently punished Rep. Steve King (R-IA).
The proposed resolution lays out a number of stipulations defined as anti-Semitism, including "hateful expressions of intolerance", "bigotry faced by Jewish people", and "the myth of dual loyalty" to the United States and Israel. A small group of stalwart Democratic Israel allies, including Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Eliot Engel, D-N.Y., and Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita Lowey, DN.Y., as well as Gottheimer, Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., and others, worked through the weekend to craft the resolution and push leaders for its passage.
Omar's supporters say that outrage over her remarks on Israel is convoluted by Islamaphobic sentiment toward the only hijab-wearing Congresswoman. The measure is part of the Democrats' pushback against Omar for suggesting last week that American supporters of Israel have conflicted allegiances. Omar's tweets referenced broader points she made during the event at Busboys and Poets about people trying to silence her views by calling her anti-Semitic.
That prompted a fraught exchange on Twitter with Jewish members of the caucus who said her remarks recall the "dual loyalty" charge often leveled at Jews. The issue of dual loyalty has always been a sensitive issue for many U.S. Jews who support Israel, insisting that they are first and foremost American though working to safeguard Israeli interests. "The American Jewish community is diverse, and includes huge constituencies for liberal centrist "J street" & progressive "Jewish Voice for Peace" & "If Not Now", all of whom object to varying degrees to Israel's brutal military occupation of Palestine". The people of the 5th elected me to serve their interest. This is a bait-and-switch.
Omar, who was elected alongside Rep. Rashida Tlaib as the first women Muslim members of Congress in US history, continues to speak out against Israel, attracting the scorn of Republicans and Democratic colleagues alike - and competing resolutions from both parties. "She is supporting America's enemies and undercutting American values", Dershowitz said.
Maurizio Sarri: Chelsea have dragged Tottenham into fight
But from the resulting corner, Chelsea were punished for an bad piece of defending as Fulham grabbed a 28th-minute equaliser. It is not easy in a first season in this team". "We will have to fight until the last minute in the last match".
"What she said is so deep-seated in her heart that her lame apology, and that's what it was, it was lame and she didn't mean a word of it, was just not appropriate, ' he stated".
It is unknown as of yet if it will specifically name Omar, but there is little doubt it is aimed squarely at her recent comments, which Republicans and many fellow Democrats have denounced as unacceptably anti-Jewish. She responded to Lowey's criticism directly on Twitter.
"I should not be expected to have allegiance/pledge support to a foreign country in order to serve my country in Congress or serve on committee, " Omar tweeted back.
Representative Juan Vargas, D, tweeted that "questioning support for the US-Israel relationship is unacceptable" - prompting Ocasio-Cortez to ask him publicly to "further explain his stance".
"I am told every day that I am anti-American if I am not pro-Israel".
