The 33-year-old's return to join his England teammates will give him a proper send-off from his worldwide career.

Wayne Rooney is set to come out of global retirement for England's friendly against the United States later this month to mark his contribution to the national team.

Rooney, a record goalscorer for both Manchester United and England, has not played worldwide football for almost two years.

The DC United striker, who retired from global football in August 2017, will make a one-off comeback in the fund-raising friendly to honour a record-breaking worldwide career, according to The Sun.

The match will be called "The Wayne Rooney Foundation international".

The match against the United States is also expected to raise money for the Wayne Rooney Foundation, and will provide England supporters with the chance to give the country's all-time leading scorer a proper send-off.
