Mongi Dhaouadi, left, and Ahmed Bedier set up an image of slain Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi before an event to remember Khashoggi, a columnist for The Washington Post who was killed inside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul in Washington. It was later discovered that he had been killed while inside, as his murder sparked a major diplomatic storm.

Providing new details about Khashoggi's death this week, the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office called it an "assassination", issuing a statement saying Khashoggi was set upon soon after he entered the consulate, as part of a plan.

Netanyahu said Israel was involved in French and Danish investigations this year of alleged plots by Iranian intelligence agencies to attack Iranian opposition figures in Europe. "Then murderers in Turkey leave the country freely", Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu said on November 1, speaking at Turkey's Pharmacy Congress.

The US also fears regional stability could deteriorate if Saudi Arabia's royal court is thrust into a power struggle, a rationale for maintaining support for Mohammed, despite ongoing concerns about his lack of experience and impulsive decisions.

On Thursday, State Department spokesman Robert Palladino told reporters Khashoggi's remains should be located and returned for a proper burial. Riyadh initially denied any involvement, but later said rogue agents had killed him.

Saudi Arabia has not commented directly on the prosecutor's visit and Mr.al-Mojeb did not respond to journalists' questions at the airport as he departed.

The Turkish president said his government had not yet located the body or identified a "local collaborator". "Turkey doesn't deserve this", he told a news conference in Ankara.

The Saudi crown prince called Jamal Khashoggi a risky Islamist during a phone call with Jared Kushner and national security adviser John Bolton days after the journalist disappeared last month at the Saudi consulate in Turkey, according to a report on Thursday. "This is not an incident that could have taken place without a high-level order".

Turkish police first searched the consulate and the Saudi consul general's residence, then hunted for evidence in a vast forest on the fringes of Istanbul. His Turkish fiancee was waiting for him outside.
