Since his disappearance, Turkish authorities have claimed to have evidence suggesting that Jamal Khashoggi was brutally murdered and dismembered inside the consulate, and that the operation was likely carried out by a team including individuals very close to Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, making it look extremely likely that the Crown Prince was behind Khashoggi's assassination.

"I would like him to support Turkey's efforts in trying to bring light to this situation and to discover the whereabouts of his body", said Cengiz, who was waiting outside the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul on October 2 when the journalist went inside to obtain paperwork for their planned marriage, never to re-emerge.

Commemorating the day is "particularly important" due to the Khashoggi case, spokeswoman Heather Nauert said.

The crown prince also reportedly urged President Trump's advisers Jared Kushner and John Bolton in the call to preserve the alliance between the USA and Saudi Arabia.

Khashoggi disappeared October 2 after visiting the consulate in Istanbul to get documents he needed to marry his Turkish fiancee. This is what is understood from the prosecutor's statement, said Aktay, as per AFP.

On Tuesday, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo called for an immediate ceasefire in Yemen "including missile and UAV strikes from Houthi-controlled areas into the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates" and "coalition airstrikes must cease in all populated areas in Yemen" in order to find a diplomatic solution to the ongoing conflict and growing humanitarian crisis. Saudi Arabia since then announced a full investigation into the killing.

Cengiz urged Trump to support Turkey's request for Saudi Arabia to extradite those it has detained in connection with the killing of the 59-year-old columnist for The Washington Post.

Istanbul's chief prosecutor's office this week said Khashoggi was strangled as soon as he entered the consulate and his body was dismembered and disposed of.

Activists erected a mock street sign on Friday in central London, just outside the gates of Saudi Arabia's embassy in the United Kingdom capital.

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan spoke to Saudi King Salman last week, and the two agreed to continue co-operating in the investigation.

Saudi Arabia faces sharp criticism from the worldwide community in the wake of the death.

"The killing of Khashoggi has proven to be a golden opportunity for President Erdogan to pressure Saudi Arabia and work towards presenting Turkey as the new leader of the Muslim world", said Lina Khatib, director of Middle East and North Africa Programme at Chatham House. However, he also said he was unwilling to sacrifice lucrative arms deals with the country.

On Wednesday, France's Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian said Khashoggi's death was a "crime" and "odious".

The delegation included Michael Little, former head of CBN; the current and former presidents of National Religious Broadcasters, Jerry Johnson and Wayne Pederson; and Larry Ross, founder of A. Larry Ross Communications.
