20th Century Fox has unveiled the synopsis of the Dark Phoenix movie ahead of the trailer launch of the X-Men film on Tuesday.
Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), James McAvoy (a now-bald Professor Xavier), Nicholas Hoult (Beast), Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), and Evan Peters (Quicksilver) also return for Dark Phoenix.
Dark Phoenix Trailer: The X-Men's Latest Nemesis Is Within Their Own Ranks
The new trailer shows Jean Grey as a young girl scared and trying to figure out what's wrong with her. Professor X, played by the brilliant James McAvoy, really hit me with a tearjerker line: "Jean, you are not broken". Wrestling with this entity inside her, Jean unleashes her powers in ways she can neither comprehend nor contain. Speculation that Dark Phoenix had been quietly dropped from the Fox calendar was quickly swatted down by Fox, as was a report that reshoots were expected to span three months (it's more like two and a half weeks). With Jean spiraling out of control, and hurting the ones she loves most, she begins to unravel the very fabric that holds the X-Men together.
The film will likely be the final full X-Men film for the studio before it is enfolded into Disney, making it the probable capper for the current continuity. Next week, Venom arrives in theaters starring Tom Hardy and an alien symbiote, Brie Larson will be defending the Earth from Skrull's in Captain Marvel, and even the X-Men will be fighting an invasion of their own in Dark Phoenix, presumably led by Jessica Chastain's character.
Dark Phoenix is out February 14, 2019 in India and across the world.
