However, the family started receiving death threats after they refused to drop the case, reported Times Now.

In the September 8 letter, a copy of which was made available to the media on Tuesday, she alleged that the Bishop and his associates were luring people to take a stand supportive of them by assuring them properties and other forms of wealth. She also alleged that Bishop Franco was trying to manipulate the investigation with wrong information and money, political power and support from other ecclesiastical authorities.

In early August, one PIL was filed seeking arrest of the Bishop.

"No one has doubt that the nun is a prostitute. Why didn't she complain the first time?" It seems police are reluctant to take action due to pressure. This is absolutely shameful. "We will write to the Kerala Director General of Police for action against George", ANI quoted NCW Chairperson Rekha Sharma as saying. If assaulted why would the nun appear with me? he had asked. She was crying. She was protesting against the Bishop and demanding justice for herself. She demanded whether "Church authorities can give back what I have lost". She was denied basic facilities like ration and stipend. The statement has also said that the allegations against the Bishop are completely baseless. "We are ready to go to any extent for ensuring justice to our sister", a nun had said during the protest.

George Joseph, working president of the Joint Christian Council, said the protest was against the state government and police.

In June, a case was registered against four priests of Malankara Orthodox Church for allegedly sexually assaulting a woman in Kottayam.

Two more public interest litigations have been filed in the High Court of Kerala seeking proper investigation of the case where Franco Mulakkal, Bishop of Jalandhar diocese of Syro-Malabar Church, is accused of raping a nun.

The bishop confined the nun to a guestroom in St Francis Mission Home in Kuravilangad in Kottayam district of Kerala.

A special team probing the case has said that according to preliminary investigation, the bishop abused his position and repeatedly raped the nun.
