How 9/11 Is Being Remembered at the Sites of the September Attacks

President Trump marked the 17th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks on Tuesday with a speech at the memorial where one of the planes went down in Shanksville, Pa. "America's future is not written by our enemies", said Trump, per CBS News.

Trump honored those killed 17 years ago at a rural field where the fourth airliner of the day crashed after those aboard realized what was happening and several passengers tried to storm the cockpit.

"A piece of America's heart is buried in this field", Trump said.

"We honor their sacrifice by pledging to never flinch in the face of evil and to do whatever it takes to keep America safe", Trump said.

The names are read by victims' loved ones, some of them not yet born when the attacks happened.

Flight 93 was one of three planes hijacked by Al-Qaeda terrorists and crashed into various landmarks across the United States, including the World Trade Center in New York City, and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia.

Bin Laden was killed in May 2011 during a U.S. military operation ordered by then-president Barack Obama.

At the rally, Trump railed against Democrats engaged in a mock conversation, playing both the role of supporter and defender. Jon Tester, who is up for re-election this year, for releasing allegations that derailed the nomination of Rear Adm.

Mr. Trump will be accompanied by his wife Melania on a day that has come to symbolize national unity - and which should offer him a welcome respite from the political mayhem swirling around him in Washington.

He said the site marks the "moment when America fought back", and said the september 11 anniversary recalls the day "a band of courageous patriots turned the tide on our nation's enemies and joined the immortal ranks of American heroes".

A citywide moment of silence will also be observed throughout the morning.

The president also participated in the Pentagon's September 11 observance past year.

"WTC Cortlandt is more than a new subway is symbolic of New Yorkers' resolve", said Joe Lhota, head of the city's Metropolitan Transportation Authority.

Sinodinos, who works near the trade center, said she tries not to let the recent attacks unnerve her.
