The move came days after the accountability court in Islamabad convicted Mr Sharif and Maryam in the Avenfield properties corruption case and sentenced them to 10 and seven years jail respectively. Three cases were filed against Sharif and his family in September a year ago following his disqualification by the Supreme Court on July 28, 2017 in the Panama Papers case.

He said the NAB would not allow Sharif to lead a rally.

Earlier, while talking to the media, Maryam Nawaz had said that Nawaz Sharif's decision to return to serve his sentence will rewrite history.

"Let me make it clear that the law enforcement agencies will arrest Nawaz and Maryam at the airport to implement the court's order", he said.

On account of serious differences among the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz senior leaders in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, the party leadership was not hopeful that party members and public would turn up in significant numbers at the Islamabad International Airport on Friday to welcome Sharif and his daughter, which is why the venue was changed to Lahore, it is learnt from well-placed party sources.

She vowed that getting arrested along with any other sacrifice needed under the banner of "respect to vote" will be made by the leadership or by thousands of PML-N devotees treading the same course as them.

PML-N spokesperson Marriyum Auranzeb said a large number of party workers will gather in Lahore from all provinces of the country to give "historic welcome" to Sharif and Maryam.

Sharif along with Maryam had gone to London last month to see his ailing wife Begum Kulsoom Nawaz.
