Android Messages finally gets a web interface

"The company has promised to rollout the features incrementally, which means everybody will not be receiving the feature at once". The company announced that it would begin rolling out Messages for web starting today, with the full rollout completing over the next week.

The first signs of Messages for web were spotted back in February, when mentions of the service cropped up in the Android app. He hopes to get RCS-level messaging to Android users within the next couple of years.

In addition to the usual subscription, download and playback controls, Google Podcasts uses the information it has about your subscriptions and listening habits to offer more personalized recommendations. Apart from normal text, you can also send stickers, emoji and attachments.

You need an Android phone running Android 5.0 Lollipop or above.

Wi-Fi is not necessary during this or following connections, though Google recommends toggling Wi-Fi "off and on again" in case of issues. One-time password or code can be directly copied from the message with a tap. Upon login, there is a "Remember this computer" option to make pairing in the future much easier.

The web client is now active on the internet, meaning that the only thing keeping users from using Android Messages Web is the update to the mobile app itself. When it's ready, your phone will vibrate.

Meanwhile, Google mentions in a support page, "Your latest conversation threads, contacts, and other settings will be encrypted and cached on your browser". This is for security reasons.

Android Messages isn't being shy about taking on Facebook and Apple to be the biggest chat behemoth. Engadget reported Tuesday that Google plans to add artificial intelligence-powered features in the coming months, including the ability to read transcripts of podcasts in multiple languages.

The Messages icon will display a red notification on the browser tab when there are unread messages. From there, Google will give you a sample of lightweight clips that you can paste directly into your conversation. Dell also has a similar solution called "Dell Mobile Connect". Google on Monday announced Messages for Web as a brand-new feature for Android Messages.
