Michael Cohen, the longtime personal lawyer of Donald Trump, was preparing to part ways with the legal team that has been representing him in federal court in NY, according to multiple reports Wednesday.

On Wednesday, ABC News and other outlets reported that Cohen was expected to lose legal representation.

CNN reported on Wednesday that Cohen had found a new lawyer, but the name has yet to be revealed.

A judge had set a deadline of Friday for Cohen's legal team to finish its review of the seized documents.

Michael Avenatti, who represents Daniels in a lawsuit seeking to void the hush agreement, said news of Cohen's imminent arrest confirms his predictions. Those papers are expected to include Cohen's personal financial dealings, including a $130,000 payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels on Trump's behalf before the 2016 election.

In addition to being the focus of the NY federal investigation, Cohen is also a key player in several threads of the Russian Federation investigation.

Fox Business correspondent Charlie Gasparino reportedly that an attorney for Michael Cohen has "complained for some time" that legal bills are not being paid.

Above the Law offers its speculation on possible reasons for the split.

But Cohen would want a lawyer who has experience working with the Southern District regardless of whether he wants to make a deal or push forward in a potential trial, Dershowitz said. As one report described it, "Of the 291,770 electronic files contained on two of Mr. Cohen's cellphones and on one of his iPads, 148 are privileged and will be withheld if the judge approves".

But there's little question that Trump is very anxious about what Cohen might tell prosecutors.
