Added Reed: "In our country of Canada we've got three wonderful host cities that have had great success in the past in hosting worldwide sporting events, including the Women's World Cup, Women's Under-20 World Cup, Men's Under-20 World Cup". That isn't set in stone, however. But, the stadium told NJ Advance Media that no final decision as to where the final will be held has been made.
Eight years ago, the US was in a similar position, when it bid for the 2022 tournament.
Part of the United bid guaranteed all games would be played on natural grass, which means if Commonwealth Stadium is chosen as a final venue, the artificial turf would be replaced for the tournament.
To do so would have invited ridicule when it needed to build or renovate the 14 stadiums it wants to use - a task FIFA's technical report said "cannot be overstated". Eleven of those locations likely will be chosen, with a decision likely two years away.
How many teams will participate?
The 2026 World Cup, which will be the first in North America since the USA hosted in 1994, will be the first held in three different nations.
This will lead to varying temperatures and conditions, depending on where games are played.
The 48-team format will increase the number of games from 64 to 80 over 34 days.
Despite not playing, United States leads World Cup flight booking growth to Russian Federation
It's the opener of the tournament, which means it'll probably be the most watched game involving these two teams in Group A . India also withdrew from the World Cup before the start of the tournament.
Canada and the United States did not qualify for the tournament.
Since it's a joint bid, common thinking holds that six sites will be in Canada and Mexico with the other six spread across the United States.
Canada will officially co-host 2026 FIFA World Cup matches.
"This was not a vote in the United Nations", said U.S. Soccer Federation president Carlos Cordeiro.
The tournament will mark the first time a World Cup has been shared by three host nations. "Together-in partnership with our Candidate Host Cities, the Member Associations, and FIFA-we will use this platform to unite the world around football and help create a new and sustainable blueprint for the future of FIFA World Cups™".
One has to think all three will receive an automatic pass into the tournament.
The World Cup kicks off on Thursday and throughout the whole tournament our team of experts from around the globe will pit their wits against each other and try and predict the result of every match.
With 48 teams, there will be 16 groups of three teams. Luis Rubiales was not present at the FIFA Congress in Moscow, the RFEF president instead in Krasnodar to deliver the news that Julen Lopetegui had been sacked as coach just two days before their opening game with Portugal.
U.S. on the other hand will receive a giant share of fixtures based on its larger size, as Canada comes second and Mexico coming third. Again, nothing has been determined.
