Warner Bros has given the green light to a standalone movie, expanding on Leto interpretation's of him, Variety reported on Tuesday.

The outlet, who spoke with sources, reports: "[The film will pave] the way for future movies branching from "Suicide Squad. Whether or not you enjoyed the movie, Warner Bros. and DC Comics still made a mountain of cash off the flick.

Jared Leto debuted as Joker in 2016's Suicide Squad, and Leto had roles recently in Blade Runner: 2049 and the Netflix movie, The Outsider.

This film will be produced under a new banner that will focus on origin stories while coexisting alongside the ongoing DC Cinematic Universe. This follows on from the previous Joker solo movie announced, with Joaquin Phoenix rumoured to star in a completely separate universe.

Variety adds that their are no plot details available for the Joker movie yet, but the current plan is that the movie will represent a path for other characters featured in Suicide Squad to get their own franchises.

Per Variety, it looks like we won't be starving for Joker movies anytime soon as Jared Leto's Joker will now receive his own standalone feature that is wholly unconnected from the Todd Phillips-directed origin feature that was announced past year. Now, it appears that Jared Letos Joker will be getting his own movie. Warners has been developing multiple tie-in films since Suicide Squad hit theaters, including Suicide Squad 2, a Harley/Joker team-up movie, and Gotham City Sirens, though it's unclear what's happening with the latter two.

It's also not certain if the Joker film would shoot before or after the previously announced sequel to Suicide Squad, which was rumored to start filming sometime in 2019.
