Man killed by speeding auto that woman drove onto Sanford baseball field

Yet witness accounts suggest that it was his heroic deeds that saved the lives of several children as a maroon Honda careened out of control on the field on Friday night.

Carol Sharrow, 51, was arrested and charged with one count of manslaughter after police said her auto came through the main gate of Goodall Park in Sanford, Maine.

Police arrested Sharrow on suspicion of manslaughter, Sanford officers wrote on Facebook. Sharrow has been charged with manslaughter and was booked into the York County Jail.

According to an October 2002 police log in the Portsmouth Herald, on Oct. 11 that year, Sharrow, with a cited address of 42 Lenox St., Apt.

Corporal Matthew Gagne of the Sanford Police Department identified the victim as Douglas Parkhurst, 68.

The statute of limitations had expired on the case, so no charges were filed. They would not say if drugs or alcohol were involved in Friday's incident.

"Parkhurst stated he was with his brother, who was passed out in the back seat". He said he had been in an accident, but in Volney, New York, where he said he hit a guard post, the release states. CBS Philly says Parkhurst was a Vietnam veteran.

On its own Facebook, page, the Sanford Maine Little League organization expressed sorrow at the incident. Speaking to News Center Maine, witness Justin Clifton related how he saw the incident play out on Friday night.

According to WMTW, the footage police have already reviewed shows bystanders yell for the victim to leave the field as the auto is seen careening toward him. "After the vehicle got off the field, (the driver) came to the gate and the older guy pushed the kids right out of the way".

Police caught the driver, Carol Sharrow, 52, a short time after she hit Parkhurst, police told local reporters.
