A large number of police personnel, former and serving IPS and IAS officers, besides political leaders, including Union Minister Ramdas Athawale, were present for Roy's final journey.
He was reportedly suffering from bone marrow cancer and was on medical leave. The doctors also discussed how Roy could give hope to people struggling with hard cancers. Of the many senior police officials who visited Roy's residence, Manoj Kumar Sharma, deputy commissioner of police (zone 1) said, "It is very saddening and shocking".
Often referred to as "Arnold Schwarzenegger" of Mumbai Police, Roy is survived by his mother and wife.
Roy was to retire from service after seven years. Apparently, Roy had to undergo blood transfusion every three days as a part of the treatment.
"With positive progress like his, it would be a mistake to say that he killed himself because of the illness".
This Mother's Day, remember that not all experiences are the same
Every time I learn of a friend becoming a first-time parent I try to impart to them how precious every stage of childhood is. When you become a mother , you have to forget about yourself because you are living for you and another human being.
As Crime Branch chief, Roy oversaw and cracked quickest possible time the sensational murder of journalist-writer J Dey, who was gunned down by a group of motorbike-riding gangsters at Powai in north-east Mumbai on June 11, 2011.
On May 21, 2013, a Mumbai Police team led by Roy arrested Bollywood actor and ex-Bigg Boss contestant Vindu Dara Singh for suspected links with the spot-fixing scam in the 2013 Indian Premiere League (IPL) tournament.
Roy had said in his note that no one was responsible for his decision to commit suicide. "It is a highly painful procedure and could breakdown even a strong person like Himanshu Roy, who was known for his passion for body building".
Roy also played a key role in the investigations on the 26/11 Mumbai attacks.
Questioning the reason over his alleged suicide, Congress spokesperson Priyanka Chaturvedi said that Roy had apparently informed the home ministry that he was being targetted but his caution was paid no heed, added Firspost.
