Chelsea have reportedly made initial contact with Paris Saint-Germain over the transfer of Edinson Cavani in a bid to secure a replacement for Alvaro Morata, should the striker return to Juventus this summer.

The 25-year-old arrived from Real Madrid last year with big expectations, but he's struggled to settle and adapt with the Blues as he's managed just 15 goals in 46 appearances.

But talkSPORT report that the Turin club are "edging closer to a reunion" with the Chelsea striker, who spent two years at Juve from 2014 to 2016.

Morata has had a tough time at Chelsea despite a good start, which saw the Spaniard score eight goals in his first nine games.

Jose Mourinho: Sir Alex Ferguson's family feeling positive after successful operation
Mata in a statement said, "This Saturday, all of us were overwhelmed by the news about Sir Alex Ferguson's health condition". The former Manchester United manager wrote: "May I wish you a very special day on the occasion of your marriage".

While it does take some players a bit longer to adjust to a new environment, squad and country, it remains to be seen if Morata gets an opportunity to prove his worth next season as speculation is already linking him with an exit after just one year. "I think the situation is very clear", he told reporters. Now it is right for everyone to be focused on the present and finish this season in the best possible way.

"I think in this season it was hard, not only for him". Your [the press] focus is only Morata, but I would like it if your focus was for the whole team.

Chelsea are now fifth in the Premier League table, and sit two points behind Tottenham, and three behind Liverpool.

Alvaro Morata has been restored to Chelsea's starting lineup for this evening's Premier League meeting with Huddersfield Town at Stamford Bridge.
