Snap, the company behind Snapchat, has released its second generation Spectacles, as heavily rumoured over the last month or so.

It also said it wanted the Spectacles to let users "live in the moment" while they snapchatted their lives. Unlike the first Spectacles, the new version is available immediately from the website. Snap's Spectacles may your answer. It's faster, has a more slender design, and isn't instantly destroyed if it takes a dunk in the water. But although the first-generation Spectacles model was generally well-received among those who bought it, the Spectacles didn't sell as well as Snap had hoped, and the company was ultimately forced to write down almost $40 million in Spectacles. Snap is also working with the online lens company Lensabl to provide prescription lenses for those of us who are not gifted in the vision department.

Launched Thursday, the new smart specs are the same shape as the originals, but the temple area of the frame, which houses most of the wearable's electronics, is about a third smaller.

The "new feature" referenced above is Snappables, Snapchats new AR games that launched today.

The spokesperson added that hardware is a long-term play for the company, and by bringing a product to market it was also able to learn in the real world, which was another goal.

This repurchase authorization permits the information services provider to buy shares of its stock through open market purchases. Alphabet accounts for 3.7% of Bourgeon Capital Management LLC's investment portfolio, making the stock its 4th biggest position.

With the new version, Snapchat is focusing on making the product more usable for its users.

If Snapchat is truly to pull off the Spectacles successfully, they may finally see a profitable quarter after losing $720 million past year.

The first refinement was to create a slimmer design. Just import them to Snapchat later on when your phone is nearby.

Snap says the new Spectacles have "new and improved" audio recording. The button works there too - but I'd be cautious not to press the button whilst underwater too many times - that's just asking for ingress. They are water resistant down to one meter for 30 minutes, and can capture up to 70 videos on a single charge. You can now take photos as well as videos - tap the top button to take a 10-second video, or press and hold for a second to snap a photo.

Snap's Spectacles 2.0 are available today for purchase on Snap with a price tag of $149.
