Former president George HW Bush hospitalised with blood infection

He was admitted to Houston Methodist Hospital early Sunday, just a day after bidding a final farewell to his wife of 73 years during a funeral in the same Texas city.

He attended the funeral wearing a pair of knitted socks decorated in blue, red and yellow books - a tribute to his late wife's work promoting literacy.

A spokesperson for the household says Bush contracted an an infection that unfold to his blood, is "responding properly" to therapy.

Mr. Bush is 93 years old. Doctors say it's been touch and go and at times were anxious President Bush would not survive after his blood pressure became dangerously low. "We will issue additional updates as events warrant".

Barbara Bush passed away last Tuesday at 92.

"He's the most goal-oriented person on this planet", McGrath said.

In 2017, Bush was hospitalized for several weeks due to pneumonia and was temporarily placed on a ventilator. For about a week in December 2014, he spent time in the hospital for shortness of breath.

Bush, who suffers from Parkinson's disease and is wheelchair-bound as a result, has been repeatedly hospitalized for pneumonia.

The story adds that Bush's family has been concerned about how he would handle the stress of losing his wife.

"The more of these parameters are abnormal, the more serious the case is", he said.

Bush, the 41st president of the United States, served from 1989 to 1993.
