The statue will move about three blocks away, to outside of the stock exchange and facing the building.
Although city officials said they are looking into moving "Charging Bull" as well, Di Modica's lawyer, Norman Siegel, said the sculptor would need to give his permission, and has yet to be contacted about it.
"I am thrilled Fearless Girl will remain in NY, inspiring global collaboration between genders for better decisions, and an improved environment at every strata of society", said Kristen Visbal, Fearless Girl sculptor. It was initially supposed to remain installed for just a few days, but public affection prompted the city to extend the permit for a year.
Fans have dressed her for harsh weather and imitated her pose - hands on hips, chin held high - to be photographed by her side.
Thomas Farley, president of the New York Stock Exchange, said in the same statement that the exchange would be a "fitting home" for "Fearless Girl".
The move is expected to be completed by the end of 2018, said New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio in a statement on Thursday.
Kanye West Dropping 2 New Albums ... One With Kid Cudi

The 4-foot bronze statue was originally installed by State Street Global Advisors, the financial services company, on the eve of International Women's Day in March 2017, with an aim to call attention to the role of women in corporate America.
"Our hope is that by moving closer to the NYSE she will inspire more companies to take action", Cyrus Taraporevala, State Street's president and CEO, told CNN. "Since her installation, Fearless Girl has become an integral part of our Lower Manhattan community, and I am thrilled that she will inspire even more New Yorkers and visitors in her new home by the New York Stock Exchange". Artist Kristen Visbal, who is based in DE and primarily works in bronze, created the sculpture.
Visbal finds the new location "exciting", but added that the statue's message has extended beyond finance.
"I am thrilled Fearless Girl will remain in NY, inspiring global collaboration between genders for better decisions, and an improved environment at every strata of society", said Kristen Visbal, Fearless Girl Sculptor.
Fearless Girl was also the scorn of criticism, however, in particular by the artist of the Charging Bull sculpture she faced. It has stood ever since as a symbol of American capitalism.
