The singer - whose set marked the first time a black woman has headlined the California festival - was a trending topic nearly immediately, sparking hundreds of thousands of tweets declaring the festival #Beychella. She had a full marching band backing her up.

She packed heaps more into her Coachella set, bringing out husband Jay Z for "Deja Vu" and dancing with sister Solange. She emphasized her being the first black woman in history to headline Coachella by covering James Weldon Johnson's "Lift Every Voice and Sing".

The crowd was treated with memorable and wonderful jams from the '90s and early 2000s, singing "Lose My Breath", "Soldier", and "Say My Name" wearing matching black and bronze ensembles for the iconic looks from the band's reign on the charts.
