Police officer shot and killed serving warrant in Cape Cod town

The suspect accused of fatally capturing a MA police officer on Thursday whereas he was being served a warrant had 111 prior grownup offenses and was on probation, authorities talked about.

Gannon, 32, had been with the Yarmouth police for eight years.

Yarmouth Chief Frank Frederickson said the 8-year veteran, was a "wonderful young man" with a promising career ahead of him.

"We refer to him as the Tom Brady of the Yarmouth Police Department and he's gone".

In a statement sent to 22News, Westfield State President Ramon S. Torrecilha extended condolences to Gannon's family, and said the university was privileged to have had a role in preparing him for his career.

Latanowich's next court date was scheduled for June 26. He was serving the warrant throughout the metropolis of Barnstable.

Peter McClelland, a retired Yarmouth police officer who served in the K-9 unit, was with Nero throughout the night, according to the hospital's post. He previously worked for the Nantucket and Stonehill College police departments. Nero was shot in the side of the face and will undergo surgery on Friday, WCVB reported.

The vigil will be held at 7 p.m. Saturday at the 9/11 Memorial on the grounds of the Yarmouth Police Department.

The suspect was reportedly taken into custody in the hours after the incident. Latanowich has more than 100 prior charges on his record, including one, according to the Cape Cod Times, for allegedly strangling a pregnant woman and vandalizing her property in October 2016.
