All around the world, people will be celebrating International Women's Day on March 8. In 2011, former US President Barack Obama proclaimed March to be "Women's History Month".
On this International Women's Day, we imagine a world where every woman and girl has access to quality and affordable health care, a world in which women and girls can freely exercise their sexual and reproductive health rights, and one where all women and girls are treated and respected as equals.
Recalling countries' legal commitments to the right to education for girls and women through worldwide treaties, it focuses on three: the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Convention against Discrimination in Education (CADE), and the global Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).
