All around the world, people will be celebrating International Women's Day on March 8. In 2011, former US President Barack Obama proclaimed March to be "Women's History Month".

On this International Women's Day, we imagine a world where every woman and girl has access to quality and affordable health care, a world in which women and girls can freely exercise their sexual and reproductive health rights, and one where all women and girls are treated and respected as equals.

Recalling countries' legal commitments to the right to education for girls and women through worldwide treaties, it focuses on three: the Convention on the Elimination of all Forms of Discrimination Against Women (CEDAW), the Convention against Discrimination in Education (CADE), and the global Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights (ICESCR).

International Women's Day is a global day celebrating the economic, cultural and political achievements of women.

The EU stressed its commitment to support women's participation in the tech sector and its intention to take forward plans and actions to promote reducing the gender gap in the digital sector.

While fight many social battles, and one day can not be seen as a true celebration really, but change often just starts with one. The day includes rallies, performances, networking events and marches that take place all over the world.

In TT, organisations such as the InterClub of TT and Women Everywhere have a week of activities in observance of the day. And there is a recommended reading list for all ages. According to the International Women's day website, the campaign theme provides a unified direction to guide and bring about collective action. The event will also debut an entrepreneurship initiative for female business owners.

Is there a social media component?

Tackling the pressing need for change, this year the United Nation's theme for International Women's Day 2018 is "PressForProgress".

Also, 40% of women felt men simply did not know what to do or say.
