The Volkswagen T-Roc is the smaller Crossover / SUV VW hope will show the Nissan Qashqai a thing or two, and it's a decent enough crossover, although without any real character to grab hearts as well as minds.

The company said that the new model will be produced from the first half of 2020, and confirmed that it would be investing more than €80 million (R1.14 billion) in its Osnabrück plant for this objective. It now produces the Tiguan and Porsche Cayman as well as the ultra-low-volume XL1 economy auto.

Set to go into production in 2020, the new machine is expected to be a niche model with around 20,000 examples built per year.

Smaller than the VW Tiguan, the T-Roc was launched in August previous year as VW's new contender in the compact crossover segment to compete against vehicles like Toyota's C-HR and Nissan Qashqai. "The Osnabrück plant now has bright prospects for the future", he said.
