The France global left Arsenal to move across London on transfer deadline day and said the opportunity to link up with Conte was too good to turn down.

The Blues made a late move for the striker and managed to complete the transfer on the deadline day for a sum of £18 million.

The arrival of the Gabon global meant that Giroud was set to become Arsenal's third-choice striker with Alexandre Lacazette also ahead of him in the pecking order.

Giroud's place in the Arsenal line-up was threatened with the arrival of Pierre Emerick Aubameyang for a club record fee.

Once Arsene Wenger had chose to bring in another centre-forward in Aubameyang, the French worldwide told the media that he spoke to Didier Deschamps for advice before choosing to move on as part of the chain that ensured that the Gabonese hitman ended up at the Emirates.

'I wanted to stay in the Premier League and Chelsea was a great opportunity for me'.

"Deschamps didn't encourage me to join Chelsea, he encouraged me to change club".

"Ideally you want him to go to clubs who do not compete with you, but on the other hand it was a bit linked to the Aubameyang deal and he's just had a third baby so it was very hard on the family side to leave London".
