Manchester United were expected to make signing a midfielder their next priority after luring Alexis Sanchez to Old Trafford from Arsenal.

The Manchester United hierarchy are finally starting to move in his direction, giving him the players he wants as they risk losing him to other top teams in Europe, who will not think twice about appointing him.

Metro believes that United are genuinely interested in bringing the goal machine back to the club he left in 2009 and they are "demanding that Madrid include Ronaldo in any deal for David De Gea". "I am delighted they feel and trust that I am the right manager for this great club for the foreseeable future".

"We are going to rest a couple of players, we have also a couple with little problems".

"I would like to say a big thank you to the owners and to Mr (Ed) Woodward for the recognition of my hard work and dedication". I care about the club and I don't want to add fire.

AS claimed earlier this month officials at Old Trafford already "know of his desire" to return to the Premier League giants, with the player having already informed some of his Los Blancos teammates of his intention to leave the Spanish capital at the end of the season.

Pep Guardiola is tired of a Cardiff FA Cup slip-up
The pressure is not on us, we can give them a really good game, do what we did to Wolves and other teams in the Championship. I'm fully aware of the quality of Aguero, I've played against him before and I just have to go out there and do my job.

United are delighted to have another proven performer on board, with the Red Devils only in the market for the best talent available.

"Could he give a little more also to adapt to us?"

Jose Mourinho has taken a subtle swipe at Real Madrid amid speculation that Manchester United are looking to re-sign Cristiano Ronaldo in the summer.

Asked yesterday about the possibility of signing Ronaldo, Mourinho said: "Cristiano is the kind of player every manager wants, every club wants".

"Maybe but I don't think about regrets, he's in our history, so good feeling for everybody and a very specific transfer between rivals in a big country which I have to say must happen more times".
