Republicans now hold a 51-49 majority, but three Senate Republicans voted for the shutdown, unhappy with levels of funding for the military, among other things.
Democrats are insisting on a deal to protect immigrants brought to the US illegally as children, known as "Dreamers", in order to back a spending bill. Republicans argued that Democrats shuttered the government over "illegal immigration" in a bid to gin up enthusiasm among their base.
"We have to fund our government and the Children's Health Insurance Program is a big deal", Barton said.
Dickerson pressed him on the ad and Ryan said, "I'm not gonna comment on--I just saw that, I don't know if that's necessarily productive".
Ryan was being asked about his future on CBS's "Face the Nation". Republicans said there isn't time to make a deal this week.
Democrats are also "counting on confusion", said Ryan.
"I consider March 5 to be the deadline", Cornyn said.

Senate Reaches Deal to End Government Shutdown
A partial government shutdown went into effect earlier Saturday morning after a House-passed spending bill to extend funding through February 16 failed to pass the Senate. Democrats will be to blame if it happens, she added.
That means the odds of a shutdown starting at the end of the day Friday are going down, though not yet approaching zero.
"It is a shakedown strategy that Senate Democrats have been talked into by their base", he said.
"Get this done", House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California said about Republicans.
However, some Republicans are raising flags on going forward. "If came to a vote, there would be more than 50 votes to open the government back up, but Senate Democrats are using filibuster, making it 60". Mike Rounds have indicated they'll vote against the stopgap measure.
The House is slated to vote Thursday evening but members of the hard-right House Freedom Caucus are opposed to the measure.
House leaders laid out their plan to keep government operations funded until February 16, giving lawmakers more time to work out agreements on raising budget caps, increasing the federal debt ceiling and, potentially, immigration.
Republicans have appeared increasingly confident that Democrats were bearing the brunt of criticism for the shutdown and would buckle.
