"We are challenged by change, but excited to attack the future with great objective", Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said in a statement.

Wide receiver Doug Baldwin, as he has done on other occasions, defended Bevell after the season. But he has also been a target for frustrated fans who feel the offense can do more, often charging to social media with the hashtag #FireBevell.

Seattle was ninth in total offense in that 2014 season and fourth in 2015, which marked the only seasons in the top 10 during Bevell's run. Seattle finished fourth overall in points and passing yards (4,061) and third overall in rushing (2,268).

The Seahawks ranked 15th in the National Football League in total offense in 2017 at 330.4 yards per game, but had increasing issues scoring and moving the ball as the season progressed. Wilson had over 4,000 yards through the air and the team averaged 141 rushing yards per game.

The Seahawks had just four rushing touchdowns as a team, and Mike Davis was their leading rusher among running backs with just 240 yards.

The Seahawks missed the playoffs for the first time since Bevell's first season in Seattle.

Bevell's Seahawks tenure may best be remembered for his role in the play call that cost Seattle Super Bowl XLIX against the New England Patriots in February 2015. Coach Pete Carroll left the door open for potential coaching changes when he said after the season that the staff would be evaluated.

Cable was often credited with being a guru at developing offensive line talent. The trademark running game over the past two seasons has withered, a span that coincides with the departure of Marshawn Lynch. But the key pieces of that experienced offensive line were traded away or got away in free agency over the years, replaced with less experienced and project players.
