SERENA Williams has opened up about the trauma of motherhood after "everything went bad" when she gave birth to her daughter a year ago.
The post for Vogue magazine comes after her recent revelation that she was forced to endure multiple surgeries in days after giving birth in their cover story. Williams insisted she get a CT scan and blood thinners despite the nurse's skepticism.
Worse still, Williams' C-section wound then broke open due to her intense coughing, US Vogue reports, requiring another surgical procedure, which in turn revealed a hematoma had flooded her abdomen - requiring yet more surgery.
Williams also revealed that her friends in the world of tennis have been very supportive of her since she announced her pregnancy.
She might be a champ on the court, but she admits to feeling the usual conflicted emotions that new mothers experience. They finally did the CT, and sure enough, there were several blood clots in her lungs.
It was a week before Williams could leave hospital, and another six weeks before she was able to leave her bed. The day after her daughter was born she felt a shortness of breath and feared she was having a pulmonary embolism (that's medical speak for when arteries in the lungs become blocked by a blood clot). "It's that same negative attitude I have on the court sometimes".
Oprah 'intrigued' by idea of running for president, friend Gayle King says
He then shared his opinion that he didn't think Winfrey would run but that she "would be a lot of fun". "I like Oprah. It was very nice... "I think it is something that Oprah would have to feel and sense for herself".
She explained: "I was like, listen to Dr. Williams!".
Williams also told Vogue about her first few months of motherhood, confessing, "No one talks about the low moments-the pressure you feel, the incredible letdown every time you hear the baby cry".
Williams is on the mend and played in her first match since giving birth December 30. I don't play to be the second best or the third best.
"I absolutely want more Grand Slams", Williams said.
'Or I'll get angry about the crying, then sad about being angry, and then guilty, like, "Why do I feel so sad when I have a lovely baby?" "All Vogue covers are special but to share this one with my attractive daughter Olympia Ohanian also the youngest Vogue cover star makes it moment I will never forget".
"I hate playing her because she gets this look on her face where she just looks sad if she's losing - solemn", Serena said. "I'm so glad I had a daughter".
