Oprah 'intrigued' by idea of running for president, friend Gayle King says

If Oprah Winfrey decides to let Hollywood liberals' ecstatic reaction to her awards-show speech become the starting point for a presidential run, she would immediately vault to the top of a field that is now composed of a mix of grizzled political veterans (Joe Biden, Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren) and a bunch of untested but hopeful newcomers to the national stage (Kirsten Gillibrand, Kamala Harris, Cory Booker).

"Yeah, I'll beat Oprah", Trump said. He then shared his opinion that he didn't think Winfrey would run but that she "would be a lot of fun".

"I like Oprah. I don't think she's going to run". "You know, I did one of her last shows". No way, says political prognosticator Donald Trump. It was very nice... "I think it is something that Oprah would have to feel and sense for herself". Will she run for president?

King, a CBS host, says that Winfrey is "intrigued by the idea" of a presidential bid in 2020, but that after a long conversation with her friend the night before, she doesn't see it happening.

Oprah has previously said she would never run for public office and has not commented on the recent speculation about a presidential tilt. Rather, her challenge will be that she will have to flee the embrace of the very people who are now doing so much to hype the Oprah-for-president bandwagon.

King adds, "It's something that she would really search within herself about what she can and wants to do".

"She would be a serious candidate", said Jennifer Palmieri, former White House communications director under President Barack Obama and the communications director for Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign.

Patricia to Giants? "All Signs" Point to 'Yes'

This isn't the first time Winfrey's name has been tossed into the political ring. I do think that.

"That being said, she doesn't have the political infrastructure and we've seen this before in our history where people who have tried to pop in that are not in politics who have had a hard time adjusting". That being said, King says she personally likes "the sound of President Winfrey". He praised her again in 2015, calling Winfrey a friend.

Oprah has always been associated with Democratic politics and fundraising and was a vocal early supporter of former president Barack Obama.

While the overwhelming instinct of the chattering classes is to mock celebrities who aspire to government, that didn't happen to Winfrey in the 24 hours following the Golden Globes.

On the show Tuesday morning, King said she "was up talking to [Winfrey] very late last night".
