A 32-year-old man was arrested in West Bengal for allegedly disturbing and harassing cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar's daughter Sara over phone, police said on Sunday.
A complaint in this regard was filed at the Bandra police station in Mumbai.
The accused, identified as Devkumar Mitti, allegedly made several calls to the landline number of the ace cricketer, a resident of suburban Bandra, in December a year ago, a police official said.
Maity is expected to appear at the Haldia Court later today, after which he will be taken to Mumbai via transit demand.
Sachin Tendulkar's Daughter Reportedly Harassed
Maity's family have said that he suffers from a mental illness. The man arrested by the police has been identified as Debkumar Maity who belongs to the Purba Medinipur district of West Bengal.
"A two-member team of Mumbai Police came here on Saturday. I fetched the landline number of Tendulkar and have called on it some 20 times, Have never seen her in person", Debkumar Maity told police.
However, police said he saw Sara on Television and arranged the landline number of Tendulkar. Police has also recovered a diary from Debkumar's house where he scribbled Sachin Tendulkar's daughter's name proclaiming her as his wife.
Mitti would tell the cricketer's domestic help who attended the calls that he would kidnap the young woman and marry her, he said. He has called Sara for about 20 times and texted lewd messages.
