The officer called for an urgent backup around 1:30 a.m. after he encountered the man, whom he described as erratically and belligerent, according to ABC Eyewitness News.

The man has been arrested on charges of unlawfully carrying a weapon and trespassing, according to KHOU Houston.

Police spokesman Victor Senties says the man later told investigators he'd brought the guns into his room from his truck because he didn't want them to get stolen. Officers arrived on the scene and shortly after found several weapons and ammunition in his hotel room.

"The safety and security of our guests and colleagues is our top priority, and consistent with the hotel's prepared security plans, heightened measures are in place on New Year's Eve", hotel manager Tom Netting said in a statement reported by the Houston Chronicle.
