Trump Putin call: Central Intelligence Agency helped stop Russian Federation terror attack

The information led to the arrest of a group of suspect planning a bombing on the Kazansky Cathedral in the Russian leader's home city of St Petersburg, the Associated Press reported.

The FSB announced on Friday it had arrested seven members of an Islamic State group cell that had been planning a suicide bombing and "the killing of citizens" in crowded areas of Saint Petersburg on December 16.

Putin, in his phone call with Trump, said Russian Federation would alert U.S. authorities if it received any information about any attack being planned on the United States, Interfax quoted the Kremlin as saying. "Based on the information the United States provided, Russian authorities were able to capture the terrorists just prior to an attack that could have killed large numbers of people".

"Vladimir Putin guaranteed Donald Trump that the Russian knowledge endless supply of data identifying with terrorist dangers against the United States and it nationals, will quickly transmit to its American associates in accomplice channels", the announcement included.

The U.S. warning allowed Russian law enforcement agencies to arrest the suspects before they could carry out their plans, the White House and Kremlin said. The two leaders agreed that this operation against terrorism "serves as an example of the positive things that can occur when our countries work together".

The phone call on Sunday between Trump and Putin was at least the second such call in the past week.

The White House added that Putin extended his thanks and congratulations to CIA Director Mike Pompeo and the entire agency.

USA insight offices have beforehand inferred that Russian Federation endeavored to interfere in the 2016 presidential race with an end goal to enable Trump to get chose. They last spoke by telephone on Thursday, when they discussed US-Russian ties and the increasing tensions surrounding North Korea.

A special counsel is investigating whether anyone from the Trump campaign colluded.
