External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj met her Chinese counterpart Wang Yi in New Delhi on Monday on the sidelines of Russia-India-China (RIC) trilateral meeting. It is learnt Yi conveyed that the two countries should increase strategic communication for better relationship.

Nevertheless, addressing a select audience at a function organized by the Indian Vivekananda International Foundation in New Delhi, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said that his country was open to extending all possible Pakistan to root out terrorism from its soil.

"I know India has problems, we discussed it today, with the concept of One Belt and One Road, but the specific problem in this regard should not make everything else conditional to resolving political issues", he said.

Sushma also held a bilateral meeting with Lavrov where there was a detailed discussion on the situation in Middle East and Afghanistan.

Tackling Doklam standoff through diplomacy denotes good neighbourliness between the two countries.

The two ministers made a decision to have a forward-looking approach and enhance their strategic communication to better manage their partnership as and when differences arise on non-demarcated boundary as well as other key issues including terror, one the people said. "This will be in the context of the three countries agreeing on the need to work together to defeat the scourge of terrorism", the second official cited above said.

RIC, in a joint press statement, said: "We condemn terrorism in all its forms and manifestations including the recent heinous terrorist attacks around the world and reaffirm our determination to prevent and counter terrorism in all its forms and manifestations".

The RIC meeting comes as Russian Federation and China are seen developing close bilateral ties against the backdrop of the two developing tensions with the United States for separate reasons. "India strongly recommends a comprehensive policy for dealing with global terrorism", Swaraj said during her address at the meeting.

The joint statement also called upon the worldwide community to respect global law and the UN Charter, including the principles of sovereign equality of states and non-interference in a country's internal affairs while dealing with terrorism and related issues. Indian Government sources said the condemnation of terror and all UN-proscribed outfits in the Communique included the two terror outfits even though they were not mentioned by name.
