A publicist for the 40-yeaar-old said in a statement Wednesday that Mayer is recovering and "is in good spirits".
John and his band had a show scheduled for tonight in NOLA, but according to TMZ, the original tickets will be honored at a new date.
"Early this morning, Tuesday, December 5th, John Mayer was admitted into the hospital for emergency appendectomy forcing the Dead & Company December 5th concert in New Orleans to be postponed", the news release read.
Dead and Company - featuring Mayer along with Grateful Dead members Bob Weir, Mickey Hart and Bill Kreutzmann - postponed a concert scheduled for Tuesday in New Orleans, saying it would be rescheduled.

It is not clear if these are the accounting irregularities Steinhoff is referring to in its latest statement. Steinhoff is a sprawling corporation which operates approximately 12,000 retail outlets across 30 countries.
Mayer has been playing with Dead & Company since the bands' inception in 2015. The singer-guitarist was due to perform later that night at a concert with the Dead & Company, but that date has now been postponed.
After that, they have another stop in the state on Friday at the BB&T Center in Sunrise, Florida. Mayer has additional solo tour dates slated for this month, and it's unclear now how they'll be affected.
Mayer is also scheduled to perform a December 12 at the Masonic in San Francisco. He also has two Controlled Danger shows with Dave Chappelle on the calendar for December 30 in Los Angeles and on December 31 in Inglewood, CA.
