Ohio State outlasts Wisconsin to win Big Ten Championship

Its front seven is among the best in the country and ranks first nationally in fewest rushing yards allowed (80.5 per game).

Ohio State held off a fourth-quarter comeback attempt by Wisconsin and quarterback Alex Hornibrook to capture its first conference championship since 2014 after taking a 21-7 lead over the Badgers early in the first half.

That defense buckled down in the second half, however, and UW found ways to hang around. "I think our efforts to play more conference games, to schedule up to a reasonable degree, to reduce the number of mismatches should serve us well". "We all believed that we were going to score more points, that we were going to come back in that game". Despite the hard-fought win over the previously fourth-ranked team in the nation, the Buckeyes fell just short of a spot in the playoff. The Big Ten has a zillion living alumni, and now three of the four teams in the playoffs are located in the southeast, a lack of geographic diversity that is bad for television ratings. But J.T. Barrett and Co. aren't expected to go quietly, if the Buckeyes quarterback plays at all.

Late in the first quarter, Van Ginkel leaped to intercept a Barrett pass and rumbled nine yards for a touchdown. Mayfield threw for 243 yards and four touchdowns against TCU. After a long Wisconsin drive that ended in an Ohio State interception, Buckeyes quarterback J.T. Barrett found receiver Terry McLaurin for an 84 yard touchdown to open up the scoring.

The Buckeyes came right back with another big play, though, as Barrett threw a quick pass to Parris Campbell, who broke tackles from Natrell Jamerson and Nick Nelson on his way to a 57-yard score.

The Buckeyes built a 21-10 halftime lead on the strength of three big plays.

Nebraska Hiring UCF's Scott Frost As Next Head Coach
Frost led UCF to an 11-0 record on the season and an appearance in the American Athletic Conference championship game. When he initially took over the Knights in the winter of 2015, they were coming off an 0-12 season.

I thought Ohio State would be picked because this would have been the most expedient result for the committee.

This time, Wisconsin Coach Paul Chryst understood the gravity of the situation.

The Bulldogs are consequently likely to get an opportunity to play in the Rose Bowl against an Oklahoma team that will provide a major test. At Wisconsin, Coach Kirk Ferentz's team had 66 yards of offense in a 38-14 loss. Wisconsin settled for three points after recovering a fumble at the Buckeyes' 11-yard line but netting just one yard on the possession. He managed an average of 7.3 yards per run and almost 100 yards per game (99.2).

Ohio State contained star running back Jonathan Taylor better than any UW opponent this season, holding the true freshman to 41 yards on 15 carries. Fromm completed 16-of-22 passes for 183 yards and two touchdowns.

Barrett completed just 12 of his 26 pass attempts for 211 yards, rushing for 60 yards and another score. on 19 attempts six days after undergoing surgery to fix a knee injury suffered in Ohio State's victory over MI.

Will the Badgers roll methodically through their thirteenth game much the same way they've gone through their first 12?
