But never fear, the news is still good: Kellogg's and Nintendo announced today that a Super Mario Cereal will hit the shelves on December 11 in order to celebrate the release of Super Mario Odyssey, which is, as of now, Amazon's best-selling video game of 2017. Together, the companies will be launching collectible Super Mario Odyssey box art and cereal. 1989's "Nintendo Cereal System" featured two cereals in one box: a " Super Mario Bros. cereal with "fruit-flavored Marios, Mushrooms, and Goombas" and a Legend of Zelda cereal with "berry-flavored Links, Hearts, and Shields". It would appear the box has a scannable code that you place against a Nintendo Switch Joy-Con or Pro Controller to activate what is described as "special content to power up your Super Mario Odyssey adventure". The product was discontinued in 1989.

"This powered-up partnership with Kellogg's is another exciting way for us to expand the Nintendo brand in unique and creative ways", Tom Prata, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of strategic initiatives, said.
Not only do you get a tasty breakfast cereal in the morning, but the box acts as an Amiibo. Super Mario Cereal may bring back memories of the good old days when boxes of cereal contained full-fledged toys, but that's not the case here.
