In marches the Christmas season: Several parades kick off holidays

This year, 25 floats have entered the parade, the same as a year ago when a record number entered.

So far the forecast calls for clouds and a low around the freezing mark.

Friona and Hereford will each celebrate "Christmas in the Park" on Monday evening with separate parades and activities. The parade in Essex starts at 6:30pm at Talbot St. S and Fairview Ave. and travels northbound to Maidstone Ave. Among the massive lineup: marching bands and majorettes, ballet dancers and cheerleaders, pageant queens, the Quantico Marine Corps Band and Santa Claus. The city's tree lighting will take place beforehand at 6 p.m.at the farmers market.

The Bay County Board of County Commissioners will hold its 9th Annual Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at 5 p.m. on November 30th.

And then don't forget the annual Christmas Luminary at Spotsylvania Courthouse at 4:45 p.m. Sunday.

Shinnston is preparing for its annual Christmas parade on December 2.

The parade is sponsored by The City of Fredericksburg Virginia Parks and Recreation Department and Huber Motor Cars, and media sponsor B101.5.

The festivities start with a tree-decorating contest along Main Street in the hamlet.
