For now, HTC is rolling out the update to unlocking HTC U11. Based on this, it's safe to say carrier models will get the upgrade a bit later than the unlocked units. Manually searching for the update is also an option that can be performed by tapping the corresponding command in the "About Device" section of the HTC U11's Settings app.

Mo Versi - VP of Product Management at HTC - made this announcement on Twitter by tweeting "The Oreo OS update will be available for download on the HTC u11 unlocked version starting on Monday".

The U11 updates mark the first step for HTC making good on the promise it made back in August to bring Oreo to the HTC U11, HTC U Ultra, and HTC 10.

The reaction on social media was swift, with Communications Minister, Senator Mitch Fifield , saying he was "bewildered" by the decision, while others applauded the move.

He didn't give any details on timing for the non-U11 devices, only going as far as saying that "It's coming soon". Apart from this, users will get the goodness of Android Oreo. Android Oreo is also set to bring access to a wide range of features including Notification Channels, Notification Dots, Autofill for passwords and Android Instant Apps. This and other efficient features will also optimize the smartphone in a way that helps it in saving battery.

Earlier this year, HTC confirmed that it will update the HTC U11 to Android 8.0 Oreo by the end of the year with rumors hinting that it's in final stages of development. The newly released U11 Life has also been added to this list of smartphones said to have the update out soon. If you're someone who doesn't live in the Americas, you should expect a separate update in the next few weeks.

You must take your valuable data and images out from the smartphone using a microSD card or any other hard drive because the update may cause loss of your data.
