Record-breaking chill brings a taste of mid-January

Brutally frigid weather Saturday morning will likely break a record low of 28 degrees set back in 1933, according to Storm Team 4.

That's today's expected high temperature.

Boston isn't the only part of the country experiencing cold, according to the weather service.

The November record low was hit in 1929 when the temperature dropped to 12 degrees.

This morning's new record low was 3° colder than the previous record. Root said the normal high temperature for this time of year is 57 degrees.

On Friday, the arctic blast brought freezing mark early Friday evening with temperatures dropping to 26 degrees in Central Park, shattering a 103-year-old record of 27 degrees. Such alerts come when temperatures are expected to be 13 degrees or below or when the temperature is at or below 20 degrees with winds of 5 miles per hour or higher.

Temperatures are expected to warm back up over the next several days with mornings warming into the 20s Sunday and 30s Monday through the week onward according to Jon Burnett's 7-day forecast.

At Sunday's 1 p.m. kickoff between the Buffalo Bills and New Orleans Saints at New Era Field, forecasters call for mostly cloudy skies with a chance for showers and 42 degrees.
