First lady Melania Trump presented her 2017 inaugural ball gown to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History on Friday.

Melania Trump has cut the First Lady's office budget drastically from when Michelle Obama was FLOTUS, the Fox News website has reported.

"If someone had told me past year that one of my dresses would have been in the Smithsonian Museum, I would have said, 'Did you have too many vodka tonics at lunch?'" the designer said in a recent interview.

In contrast, only four people were listed on Melania Trump's payroll as of June, with salaries totaling $486,700, according to the White House's annual staffing report to Congress.

Her communications director, Stephanie Grisham, says the lean East Wing operations are a deliberate decision.

Melania, on the other hand, got a later start as an active First Lady, staying with young son Baron in NY so he could finish the school year.

Of course I can play better sometimes, I know that, but I think my development has been good so far. Position-wise I think it should be possible but it is hard with the few points we have given away.

"To be honest, what I would wear to the inaugural ball was the last thing on my mind", she continued.

The exhibit explores the position of the first lady, which is still an unofficial title. "For me it reflects her personality", Pierre told the magazine.

'It is important to her that the team is a good fit for what she wants to accomplish as first lady, and that everyone works well together.

The first lady's spokesperson confirmed that Melania's approach to staffing is intentional. "She also wants to be mindful and responsible when it comes to taxpayer money".

Michelle Obama's office did not return Fox News's request for comment.
