Fire Prevention Week 2017 promoted in area schools

Mankato Department of Public Safety plans a live fire display for the public to observe, as well as demonstations about fire hoses and vehicle extrication. Conduct one at night and one during the day with everyone in your home, and practice using different ways out of the home.

Having an escape plan in case of a fire in the home is critical to survival.

To kick off Fire Prevention Week, the Fire Prevention Bureau will have an educational display at Home Depot on October 7 for Fire Safety Day.

"If you have a fire at home you may only have less than three minutes after the alarm sounds to get out safely". This year's Fire Prevention Week campaign is "Every Second Counts, Plan 2 Ways Out!", according to Sheridan Fire Chief Terry Lenhart.

The 7th annual Fire Safety Day will take place Saturday, Oct. 14 on the grounds of the Clinton Presidential Center. Both the Fremont Fire Department and the Fremont Rural Fire Department are participating in Fire Prevention Week.

The Kimberley Fire Department is working in coordination with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the official sponsor of the Fire Prevention Week for more than 90 years, to reinforce those potentially life-saving messages.
