Clemson climbs to No 2 in AP poll rankings

3 Oklahoma (3-0) with a convincing 47-21 victory over Louisville.

- No. 23 Utah and No. 24 OR are both off to 3-0 starts.

Oklahoma State moved up to sixth from ninth after its 59-21 demolition of Pittsburgh. OU easily handled Tulane 56-14 on Saturday after overcoming a slow start. Numbers in parentheses denote first-place votes. Penn State and USC round out the top five at No. 4 and No. 5, respectively.

Other Big 12 schools in the AP poll include Oklahoma State (No. 6, up three spots) and TCU (16, up four spots).

Florida State fell out of the top 10 in the AP poll last week despite not playing, and the fall continued this week.

Clemson has been ranked no lower than sixth in the AP poll since October 4, 2015, and has been ranked in the top five for 28 straight polls, the longest such active streak in the country. I moved Penn State in front of USC this week in third and Clemson, Washington and Wisconsin in the fifth through seventh spots for the time being.

Just like that, Mississippi State is a top 25 team. Oklahoma State 7. Washington 8. Virginia Tech 14. Miami (FL) 15.

Florida State (0-1), which didn't play for the second straight week due to the effects of Hurricane Irma, dropped one spot to No. 12. 19 Stanford 20-17. The Aztecs are No. 22 after beating Pac-12 programs (first Arizona State) in back-to-back weeks.
