Quarterback Matthew Stafford is playing his best football since past year and a half, and it could get a stronger with the addition of running back Ameer Abdullah, who missed later half of the last season with a foot injury.

And even though the offense sputtered much of the first half, they got it together in time to surge past Arizona for an all-too-familiar fourth-quarter comeback. Without him, the Cardinals would have to rely heavily on Carson Palmer, who has looked dismal in his showing against the Lions in Week 1.

The Lions defense would come through again in the second quarter when safety Glover Quin intercepted another Palmer overthrow.

The third-year pro managed just 23 yards on 11 carries and fumbled twice. At the rate their going, the Lions might not get a first down all season.

The Lions defense was also very impressive.

The Cardinals suffered a scare during Sunday's 35-23 loss to the Lions when star running back David Johnson left the game during the second half with a wrist injury. Detroit also had some early issues on special teams, and had too many early penalties. Three Lions converged on him for the tackle and brought him down quickly.

Redfern was hit pretty hard and carted back to the locker room.
