Nissan has the real experience in producing the practical, affordable, electric auto.

Chris Lilly, content manager for the Next Green Car news site, said while the new model was not "groundbreaking" it should be more appealing to drivers.

However, the base model's 235-mile battery range is around 80 miles more than the outgoing model, the website says.

A higher capacity model with increased motor power and battery capacity allowing the Leaf to travel even further will be introduced towards the end of next year. Tesla, on the other hand, has a good way to go to set up a support system for British owners, besides actually building its machine for right-hand-drive markets.

The new Leaf also offers intelligent driving technologies in the North American marketplace.

The latest generation Leaf, which costs Yen 3.15 million (Rs 18.61 lakh or Dollars 29,000) has a 40kWh battery with a cruising range of 400kms, more than three times the current range offered by the Mahindra e2o, one of the two fully electric cars on sale in India. It will be handy in congested traffic, says Nissan. The introduction of the new Leaf is likely to further intensify competition in the EV market.

Now we've been wanting the Nissan Leaf to come to India ever since the Indian government has made a decision to switch to electric vehicles by 2030.

The 2018 version also gets a 6.6-kilowatt onboard charging system that draws more electricity from a 240-volt charging outlet, allowing the Leaf to go from empty to fully charged in about 7.5 hours., Maragno said. Pricing for the 2018 Leaf in the usa will start at $29,990.

"You're getting a lot less range but you're paying a lot less", he said. "It also has the core competency of future Nissan models". It's the first complete redesign of the vehicle since it was first introduced in 2010. The 200-mile mark is considered by many industry experts as the range needed to ease driver fears that they'll run out of juice before ending their trips in the United States, but even then range is still the biggest obstacle to widespread adoption of electric cars. Nissan was an innovator seven years ago when it unveiled its first Leaf, with 280,000 units sold.

Electric vehicles still only represent a fraction of conventional vehicle sales with just over 2 million electric vehicles being registered worldwide as of 2016, according to the International Energy Agency.

One big opportunity is China. Nissan is one of the largest automobile manufacturers in the world. The current V-motion grille family design is incorporated, detailed in blue to signify the auto is electric.

Gas prices in metro Detroit see dramatic rise, highest in three years
A week earlier, as Harvey still was working its way through the Houston area, the average price in Bradenton was $2.30 per gallon. Gas prices in other markets in southcentral Pennsylvania likewise felt a bigger punch from Harvey than the nationwide mark.
