Nationals Bryce Harper carried off field with apparent knee injury

The Nationals' training staff and manager Dusty Baker rushed to the field to help Harper off, as Harper was unable to walk off under his own power. Baker said Bochy was the first one to call him when he was sacked by Cincinnati, and Baker called in April when Bochy had a heart procedure.

But the pitching of Jackson and hitting of Lind was overshadowed by the Harper injury.

"We enjoy our battles and being competitive against each other", Bochy said. "We just ask for prayers that it's not serious".

Yuvraj Singh dropped for limited-overs series; Ashwin, Jadeja rested
The bowling department might see some shuffling as Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Shami are set to be rested. Yuvraj Singh was left out by Indian selectors from the limited overs series against Sri Lanka starting on August 20.

Nationals right-hander Edwin Jackson added: "When you see a calibre of player like that, or any player, go down like that, you hope for the best". He has a 3-2 record with a 3.86 ERA in 35 innings total.

Reigning NL Cy Young Award victor Max Scherzer (12-5, 2.23) had his choice which game to pitch and preferred night, and he'll face San Francisco LHP Matt Moore (3-12, 5.88). Only moisture. The Nationals delayed the first pitch for a half-hour and had the field tarped under partly sunny skies because of an approaching thunderstorm. With the rainout on Friday and the Giants not returning to Washington D.C.in 2017, Saturday's game was a must for the two teams. Melancon has been on the disabled list with a right forearm strain since June 28 and had two strikeouts in an inning during a rehab assignment with Class-A San Jose on Wednesday.

As per usual with the Washington Nationals, no injury news is usually given until after the game and its unlikely we will know the full diagnosis until some point during the doubleheader tomorrow. The San Francisco Giants hand the ball to right hander Jeff Samardzija for Sunday's start at the Washington Nationals. Harper fell to the ground and held his left knee for several minutes. They will be opposed by Giants RHP Chris Stratton (0-2, 6.63) and LHP Matt Moore (3-12, 5.88).
