Spirit Airlines had the highest rate of booting passengers involuntarily at 125 per million passengers and JetBlue was the lowest at 4 per million during the last three months.
According to a report released yesterday by the Department of Transportation, for the first six months of 2017, the 12 biggest United States airlines reported an involuntary denied boarding, or bumping, rate of 0.52 per 10,000 passengers.
The incident drew attention to the common airline practice of "overbooking" flights and led United and two other major carriers to change their policies on how passengers are involuntarily denied boarding on flights.
The 12 USA carriers that report incidents of involuntary denied boarding posted a bumping rate of 0.52 per 10,000 passengers compared to a rate of 0.62 from this time a year ago. The airline posted a bumping rate of 0.64 per 10,000 passengers during the quarter, compared with 1.07 during the same period in 2016. But it's impossible to break out the specific bumping data at the nation's three largest airlines, because they also operate feeder flights which regional carriers that aren't included in those numbers. It also prompted a lawsuit from the passenger in question, who suffered a concussion and broken nose, along with the loss of two of his front teeth, The Washington Post reported.
"This will never happen again", he told the show's hosts. Over the years, it has not been uncommon for airlines to sell more tickets than they have seats. "This issue is not going away". Delta Air Lines also raised the amount of money its employees could offer.
Hawaiian Airlines ranked at the top for bumping the fewest passengers off planes and ranked No. 1 for having the best on-time performance for its flights. American Airlines Group Inc., for example, created a desk that monitors every flight that is oversold and gets involved earlier to find volunteers willing to give up their seats.

In its report released Tuesday, the Department of Transportation also reported on-time performances for this year.
Cancellations: About 1 percent of scheduled domestic flights were canceled in June 2017, up from 0.8 percent in May.
The department is investigating six tarmac delays of at least three hours for domestic flights and two for delays of at least four hours for global flights, which can bring fines against an airline.
Airlines were less punctual in June, with 76.2% of flights arriving within 15 minutes of their schedules.
