Voting on the provision on Thursday, 191 members of the House voted in favour of the amendment, 91 voted against, while 3 abstained.

The senate had on Wednesday rejected amendment proposals on devolution of powers, state creation and boundary adjustment, deletion of the Land Use Act, as well as citizenship and indegeneship, drawing ire from sections of the country that had long advocated for structural changes to the country.

In some cases, whereby the upper chamber had voted against a particular bill, the House would only be making its position known to the public if it made a decision to vote in favour of same bill already opposed by the Senate.

The lawmakers approved an amendment to the constitution to provide time for the determination of pre-election matters but voted in favour of a bill to amend the 1999 constitution to reflect the establishment and core functions of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps.
