About 7:35 a.m. Saturday, a 2007 Mack truck driven by Antonio Santiago Wharton, 33, of Kissimmee, was hauling scrap metal westbound on the State Road 528 exit to westbound Interstate 4.

The Florida Highway Patrol says a semi carrying scrap metal overturned on an overpass ramp on Interstate 4. Then a large piece of metal pipe, which was several feet long, fell directly onto the minivan.

The metal fell directly on top of the van, crushing the roof.

The truck struck the guardrail and flipped over, The Florida Highway Patrol said.

Escobar and Wharton only received minor injuries. But the driver, 36-year-old Jesus Armando Escobar of Orlando, miraculously survived and suffered only minor injuries.
