Mike McCray, the senior linebacker from OH, is one of 51 to have his name included in the Butkus Award watch list released Monday. This time it's the Butkus Award, which is given to the best linebacker in college football.

The watch list was compiled by a panel of college football experts based on a combination of 2016 statistics, career performance, SID recommendations and expectations heading into the 2017 season.

Western Kentucky senior wide receiver/punt returner Nacarius Fant has been named to the Paul Hornung Award Watch List, the Louisville Sports Commission announced Monday morning. The award named after legendary linebacker Dick Butkus has been presented by the Butkus Foundation in every year since 1985. The victor and his family will be honored at the annual Paul Hornung Award Banquet presented by KentuckyOne Health, to be held at the Galt House Hotel in downtown Louisville on March 8, 2018.

Red Sox blank Yankees to earn doubleheader split

A third-year linebacker and native of Mesquite, Texas, Jefferson looks to become the first Longhorn since Derrick Johnson in 2004 to win the award. So far this preseason, Jefferson has also been named to the watch lists for the Bednarik Award and the Bronco Nagurski Trophy.

The 6-foot-4, 248-pound McCray started at linebacker in all 13 games for MI in 2016. That included 11 tackles for loss, a sack and a forced fumble. He finished the year as an All-Big 12 second-team selection by the league and Associated Press.
